Kings Fall in Game One
The Essex 73s put together a flurry of offense in the second period Saturday night to defeat the Dresden Jr. Kings in game one of their second round playoff series.
Daniel Slipchuck opened the scoring in the first period for Essex, quieting the 400 people in attendance in Dresden.
To open the second period, Dresden went on the man advantage, and Alex Ritchie finished off a play from Alex Schmidt and Macks Holmes to knot the game at 1-1.
Essex however, wouldn’t wait long to rebound and put the game out of reach. League MVP and scoring leader Corey Beaulieu scored the next goal, which would eventually hold up as the game winner. Before the frame was over, the Essex 73s would also get goal from Daniel McIntyre and Jordan Ryan.
With the score sitting at 4-1 heading into the third, both goaltenders would make key saves in the third, while Essex shut down any comeback attempts Dresden made. The game would end 4-1, and now heads back to Essex for game two on Tuesday night.
Essex held Dresden to only 17 shots in the game.
In the other Great Lakes Junior C playoff series, Wheatley leads the Belle River Canadiens 1-0.
