Kings Take the Lead, Sharks Look to Close Out Flyers
After falling in game one to the Blenheim Blades, the Dresden Kings have won two straight to take a 2-1 series lead in the opening round of the Great Lakes Junior C playoffs.
Early in the first period of Friday’s game, it looked as though Blenheim was going to control the game. Justin Rossignol and Kirk McKillop both scored for the Blades to give them a 2-0 lead. Dresden would quickly bounce back however with two goals from Mike Myers and a single from Josh Beatty to give them a 3-2 lead after one period.
Tyler Clarke opened the scoring in the second, before a late flurry of goals came from both teams including markers from Alex Ritchie, Jesse Allen, and Derek Daly for Dresden, and Jarrod Oliphant for Blenheim.
In the third, after Justin Rossignol scored his second of the game, the Kings shut the door in the final two minutes to hold on for a 6-5 win.
The Wheatley Sharks took a commanding 3-0 lead over the Alvinston Flyers following another 6-2 win. Riley Babkirk and Brian Johnson had two goals each while Craig Adamson and Kyle Quick rounded out the scoring for the Sharks.
Wheatley will try to close out their series Saturday night. Belle River and Essex also lead their best of seven series’ 3-0.
