The Wheatley Sharks became the first Great Lakes Junior C team to punch their ticket to the second round of the 2013 playoffs. Wheatley finished their sweep of the Alvinston Flyers with a 6-1 win Saturday night.

Austin Fontaine, and Sebastian Kanally scored first period goals, taking the wind out of Alvinston’s sails. The goals, all on special teams, were part of a 4 powerplay goal, and 1 shorthanded goal performance for the Wheatley Sharks.

Kyle Quick would then score three consecutive goals in the second and early third period to cap off a hat trick, and put the Sharks out of reach.

Fontaine would score his second of the game to cap off the scoring, and Marc Tremblay made 34 saves to pick up the win, and put the series on ice.

Sunday, the Dresden Kings, who led their series against the Blenheim Blades 2 games to 1, edged closer to a series victory by winning game 4.

For Dresden, who capitalized on early Blenheim mistakes, all of their scoring happened in the first twelve minutes of the game, before their defence and goaltending took over to hold on for a close 3-2 win.

Cam Ross, Dylan Mertz, and Alex Ritchie scored for the Dresden Kings in the victory, while Blenheim got goals from Kirk McKillop and Zach Horvath.

In other action, Essex eliminated Kingsville, while Belle River holds a 3-1 lead over Mooretown.
