Wallaceburg Lakers Eliminated, Playoff Schedule Set
After it appeared the Wallaceburg Lakers had all but locked up a playoff spot for the 2013 Great Lakes Junior C postseason, the Kingsville Comets completed an unlikely run Saturday night by defeating the first place Essex 73s.
Kingsville finished the season with 25 points, one more than the Wallaceburg Lakers following their 3-1 win over Essex, giving them the final playoff spot, and a date to play the 73s in the postseason.
If Wallaceburg had won either of their last two games, or Kingsville had lost any of their last three games, the Lakers would have clinched the eighth playoff spot, but Kingsville went on a three game winning streak to enter the playoffs, while Wallaceburg lost their final two games.
Saturday, Mark Sobocan, Tyler Kirby, and Justin Parker scored while Laine Parent made 36 saves. The Kingsville Comets were outshot 37-25 in the game.
Wheatley opens their playoff series against the Alvinston Flyers Monday at 7:30pm in Wheatley. Blenheim also travels to Dresden Monday at 7:30pm. In the other two series, Belle River faces Mooretown, while Essex hosts Kingsville.
