Wheatley Looks To Fend Off Elimination
After climbing out to 2-0 lead in their Great Lakes Junior C semi-final, the Wheatley Sharks have dropped three straight games to the Belle River Canadiens and now face elimination Thursday night.
Tuesday, the Sharks fell 2-1 to Belle River, which gave the Canadiens their first series lead. Austin Fontaine scored for Wheatley in the opening period on the man advantage, with assists going to Riley Babkirk and Brett Babkirk.
In the second, rookie Mark Manchurek tied the game for the Canadiens. Then, late in the third period, with only 1:59 left on the clock, Andrew Synnott played the hero scoring the game winning goal.
Game six is Thursday at 7:30pm in Wheatley. If the Sharks can force a game seven, it will be held Friday at 7:30pm in Belle River.
