Atom Wildcats Win Provincial Bronze
Ranked 10th in the Province, the Wildcats entered the Provincial championships on a hot streak, winning 10 of their last 11 games.
Chatham-Kent opened the tournament with a round robin win over the Huron Lakers. Olivia Lozon paced all scorers with 10-points, while Grace Mwasalla had 8-points, and Diana Lucarelli and Holly Beaumont chipped in with 4 each, as the Wildcats defeated Huron 37-27.
The Wildcats lost a high scoring second game to the North Toronto Huskies 49-46. Mwasalla scored an incredible 16-points in the loss. Other top scorers were Lozon with 9, and Niveen Tekhli with 8-points.
The Atom girls got back in the win column in their third game, facing the IEM Spartans from Newmarket. Lozon scored 16-points, and Mwasalla had 9-points as the Wildcats downed the Spartans 35-19.
Facing Toronto Triple Threat, the Chatham-Kent Wildcats needed a win to advance to the gold medal game, but an incredible individual performance from a Triple Threat player, who scored 40-points, sent Chatham-Kent to the bronze game with a close 49-46 loss. Lozon scored 15-points, while Lucarelli had 9.
In a rematch against the North Toronto Huskies, who handed Chatham-Kent a loss in the round robin, the Wildcats were looking for revenge in the bronze medal game. Lozon and Beaumont led all Chatham-Kent scorers with 8-points each, helping their team to a 32-19 win, securing the bronze medal. Audrey Mackay-Barr and Diana Lucarelli had 4-points each, and Grace Robertson had 2 in the bronze medal win.
