Belan Fighting For Spot With AHL’s Monarchs
Former Wallaceburg Lakers and Dresden Kings forward Kris Belan, of Florence, Ontario, has signed a professional tryout with the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League.
Manchester is the top affiliate of the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings.
Belan has played three games for the Monarchs, registering his first AHL point, and his first American Hockey League fight when he dropped the gloves with St. John’s IceCaps defender Cody Sol a minute into Sunday’s 4-1 Manchester win.
In Wednesday’s 3-2 overtime win against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Belan assisted on the games opening goal, scored by Manchester forward Ian O’Connor. The goal was scored against NHL veteran, and former NHL first overall draft pick, Rick DiPietro.
Manchester also defeated St. John’s last Saturday 5-4 in overtime.
In the ECHL this season, Belan has 8 goals, 12 assists, and 130 penalty minutes in 55 games for the San Francisco Bulls.
Manchester is back on the ice Friday against Portland, and Sunday against the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins.
