Former Wallaceburg Red Devils goalie Tye Belanger is making waves in the National Lacrosse League after a pair of starts last week for the Colorado Mammoth.

Belanger, after splitting a 14-10 loss to the Toronto Rock March 8, started and won his first career NLL game March 9 against the Buffalo Bandits. In his first game, Belanger entered as relief for Dan Lewis, making 15 saves on 21 shots.

The 12-6 win against Buffalo, in which Belanger recorded 30 saves, earned the 22-year-old recognition as the NLL’s Rookie of the Week. Belanger was also named the game’s MVP.

Facing Buffalo again March 16, Belanger again got the call in net, stopping 32 shots en route to a 16-13 win.

After playing only 21 minutes in 2012, Belanger has solidified himself as an upcoming prospect in the league. The Mooretown native is one of two Wallaceburg Red Devils alumni playing for the Mammoth, as Port Lambton’s Sean Pollock is a key veteran for the team.

Pollock has 9 goals and 25 assists in 11 games for the Mammoth this season. In 137 career games, Pollock has 429 NLL points.

Colorado will travel to Calgary this Saturday to face the Roughnecks.
