Chatham Evens Series With Overtime Win
After falling to the London Nationals in game one of the GOJHL Western Conference final, the Chatham Maroons needed overtime Saturday to even their series 1-1.
Darien Ekblad and Taylor Edwards held the fort for Chatham and London respectively in the opening period, keeping the score knotted 0-0. As the second period got underway however, London would break the ice with a powerplay goal from Lance Pridham. Pridham is in his first season with the Nationals after playing multiple seasons in the QMJHL with the Moncton Wildcats.
With time winding down in the second period, Maroons captain Sean Myers tied the score, with assists going to Blake Blondeel and Evan Mascaro.
Both goaltenders again shut the door in the third period, sending the game to overtime knotted 1-1.
Then, in the extra frame, Chatham’s Alex Morgan slid one home at 5:09 of the first overtime period, to lift the Chatham Maroons to a 2-1 win, and return the series to Chatham Sunday tied at one game each. Jake Flegal assisted on the winner for Chatham.
Ekblad made 22 saves in the win.
