Federal Budget To Save Sports Parents

The average Canadian family will be seeing some relief coming when it comes to buying sporting equipment in the immediate future.

The Canadian Federal government announced the details of their 2013 budget this week, which included “$76 million in annual tariff relief on baby clothing and sports and athletic equipment to reduce the gap in retail prices that Canadian consumers pay compared to those in the U.S.”

The Federal Conservative government is aiming to encourage Canadian consumers to shop in Canada, without crossing the border to sporting equipment in the USA.

According to the Federal government’s budget website, they state that “The Government shares Canadians’ concerns about the Canada-U.S. price gap and wants to see lower prices for consumers.”

The elimination of tariffs on ice skates, hockey equipment, skis and snowboards, golf clubs and other equipment, will save Canadians up to 20% on some products.

In the past, the Conservative government has attempted to reduce costs on Canadian citizens, and promote physical fitness through the Children’s Fitness Tax Credit.

Canadians will see savings of 5-20% immediately on most sporting products, particularly hockey equipment.
