Maroons Drop Western Conference Final Opener
The London Nationals proved to be too much for the Chatham Maroons in the opener of the GOJHL Western Conference finals. London handed the home Maroons a 4-2 loss in game one of their series Thursday night at Memorial Arena.
London held Chatham at bay for the majority of the game, not allowing the Maroons to get on the scoresheet until the third period. In the first, Aaron Dartch opened the scoring for the London Nationals.
Tyler Bryden and Connor Allison expanded London’s lead in the second period, making the score 3-0 heading into the final frame.
In the third period, Chatham finally solved London goalie Taylor Edwards. Blake Blondeel scored two minutes into the third period, assisted by captain Sean Myers to get the Chatham Maroons on the board. London however, would answer back as Sean Consitt again gave London a three goal lead.
Brennan Feasey would score on the powerplay for Chatham, with assists coming from Myers and Blondeel, but it would be too little too late for the Maroons, who were cheered on by 1,347 fans at Memorial Arena.
Chatham will try to even the final series Saturday as they travel to Western Fair, before returning to Chatham Sunday for game three.
