Ridgetown golfer Crawford McKinlay will be taking his game to a new level next season, after committing to a golf scholarship with the Wayne State University Warriors.

McKinlay is a former Kent High School Champion, won three tour stops on the Jamieson Junior Golf Tour, and won the 2011 Canadian Optimist Junior Golf National Championship, and Southwestern Ontario Optimist District Championship.

A member of Ridgetown Golf Course, McKinlay will study business at Wayne State, while competing for the NCAA Division II Wayne State Warriors. McKinlay says, that although next season will be a challenge, it’s one he is ready for,

“Next season will be a bit of a transition moving out and living away from home, but I feel ready,” McKinlay stated, “(I’m) not to worried about it.”

What McKinlay says he is looking forward to the most however, is being a part of the Wayne State Warriors team, “I am looking forward to being a part of a team again, it’s been a while since I’ve played much team sports. The team is very close and everybody is there for each other so it will be fun to be a part of it.”

Wayne State competes in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and captured conference golf championships in 2004 and 2009.
