Sharks Advance To Final With Game Seven Win
After getting out to a 2-0 series lead, and then trailing 3-2, the Wheatley Sharks battled through adversity to take their Great Lakes Junior C semi-final series in a seventh and deciding game Friday night on the road.
Playing the Belle River Canadiens, Wheatley rode the goaltending of Marc Tremblay who picked up a 4-0 shutout victory, making 24 saves in the win.
Riley Babkirk opened the scoring in the first period for Wheatley, a goal that would hold up for 47 minutes more as the game winner.
In the second Brendon Anger scored, before Kurtis Ouellette added a dagger on the powerplay at 15:46 of the frame. Babkirk picked up an assist on the goal along with Sebastian Kanally.
The third period was a defensive stalemate. Belle River tried to get back in the game late by pulling their goalie, but Wheatley’s Kyle Quick scored into the empty net making it 4-0.
The series was a rematch of last season’s Great Lakes final, which was won by Belle River. This is Wheatley’s second consecutive season vying for a Championship.
Wheatley will now face the Essex 73s for the Great Lakes title.
