The Promise of Great Things…
This time last year I remember thinking that October baseball was pretty unlikely for the Toronto Blue Jays. Sure, the Jays had some talent, but they were lacking in so many vital areas; most notably their pitching rotation.
Now, understand that I’m a HUGE Roy Halladay fan and that anyone that takes the mound for the Jays will always be second rate in my opinion. This year, however, the pitching staff for the Jays has been upgraded in a more than significant way. The addition of R.A Dickey, Josh Johnson, and Mark Buehrle have taken this Blue Jays team from zero to hero. Brandon Morrow and Rickey Romero are now slated in a far more appropriate 4th and 5th spot in the rotation – rather than being number 1 and 2.
But it goes further than this. Toronto added Jose Reyes, and Melky Cabrera to an already fairly potent offense. If these guys pull it together, and Edwin Encarnacion and Jose Bautista live up to expectations, to suggest that the Blue Jays may be contending for the World Series Championship is not out of the question.
The city of Toronto is obviously anxious to see this team hit the field. Tickets to the Home Opener sold out in under an hour and season ticket sales are way up. The fans have long awaited to see a team of this calibre come back to Toronto. Is this year the year?
Let’s play ball!
