Chatham Maroons Lose Final

After an incredible regular season and run to the GOJHL Western Conference final, a championship wasn’t to be for the Chatham Maroons.

The London Nationals eliminated the Chatham Maroons, capturing the GOJHL Western Conference title and advancing to the Sutherland Cup for the second consecutive season, with a 4-2 win in game five Thursday.

In front of 1,100 fans at Chatham Memorial Arena, Jeff Bauer and Tyler Bryden got London out to a 2-0 lead Thursday in the first period.

Veteran captain Sean Myers, scored on the powerplay in the second period to cut London’s lead to 2-1 heading into the final frame.

London however, would get two goals from late season acquisition, and former St. Marys Lincolns leading scorer and captain Sean Consitt in the third period to put the game away.

Myers would score his second of the game, but it wasn’t enough to lift the Maroons. Myers two goal performance marked the last game of his Junior hockey career, as the 20-year-old captain of the Maroons will graduate due to age this year.

London will now await the winners of the other GOJHL conferences before starting the Sutherland Cup.
