Community Run Raises Over $1000 For Boston Marathon Victims
Starting from Up & Running, Downtown Chatham’s running shoe and apparel store, the run saw a turnout of more than 100 runners. Up & Runnings owner Kim Wood, who was another Boston Marathon runner, posted to their business’ Facebook page after the run, praising the community for their support in the run.
“We are truly touched by the support from the Chatham Kent running community. The community run organized by our friend Andreas Gorny to show support for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing had an amazing turnout.”
“We raised just over $1000 tonight, which will be going to the OneFundBoston. The store will also be donating 10% of our sales for the rest of the month of April, in addition to the individual donations collected.”
All money collected through this fund will go directly to those impacted by the tragic bombings at the Boston Marathon, which left three people dead and hundreds injured.
Wood also encouraged people to continue to support the cause by donating either in store, or directly on the One Fund Boston website at www.onefundboston.org.
Gorny, the run’s organizer, was the top local finisher in the Boston Marathon completing the race in 3:17:29. This finish placed Gorny 5252nd overall and 612th in this division. Wood finished the race in 3:38:15, good for 448th in her division, and 10739th overall.
