For the second time this season, Dresden’s Justin Cook has been named the Wolverine-Hoosier Conference baseball player of the week. Cook received the honour for the week ending April 14.

The Lambton-Kent Composite School graduate is in his first season with the NAIA school, the Madonna University Crusaders.

Cook helped Madonna to a perfect 4-0 week, hitting .429, slugging 1.000, and posting a .438 on-base percentage.

Against Cornerstone University to open the week, Cook hit a home run as part of a 1-for-3 game with three RBIs.

Cook then drove in the game tying run in the bottom of the seventh inning against Cornerstone in the second game of their double header last Friday. Cook hit his second homer of the week on Saturday, a walk-off shot. The homer, to opposite field, lifted Madonna to a 5-4 comeback win in the bottom of the 10th inning. Cook ended his impressive weekend performance against Cornerstone in game 4 of their series going 2-for-4, again droving in the game winning run.

Cook continued his hot hand Monday against Davenport going 4-for-8, scoring three runs, and adding three RBIs in a two game sweep for Madonna. Cook’s brother Matt also had two RBIs, going 1-for-3 in the second game of the day.

The Madonna Crusaders host Siena Heights Wednesday April 17 for their next double header.
