OHL Franchise Still On the Radar For CK Council
The possibility of an OHL team coming to Chatham-Kent is set to explored further by Council.
Staff presented an overview during a committee of a whole meeting last night. Council voted 11-4 in favour of having staff creating a business plan for a potential OHL franchise, along with sports and tourism plan overall. The vote cannot be finalized until it’s brought up in a regular meeting.
Chatham Counc. Marjorie Crew says it’s hard not to get excited about, but Council must do their due diligence and prepare properly.
She says all avenues of funding need to be explored as well, through provincial investment, federal investment and through the private sector as well.
Crew added an OHL team and new arena could be a great “economic driver” for the community but would come with a hefty “price tag.”
The notion of an OHL franchise coming to C-K was in the news recently, after a leaked report from a closed session meeting of Council made it’s way into the newspaper.
