OHL Team A Possibility For Chatham-Kent
Rumours are flying regarding a potential OHL franchise relocating to Chatham-Kent, as early as next season.
Chatham-Kent Mayor Randy Hope has stated multiple times, as recent as last week, that an OHL franchise is one of his top goals for the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. It has been no secret that the Municipality has been in talks with OHL franchises in the last 12 months, and were involved with talks with multiple franchises.
The Brampton Battalion recently announced they will move to North Bay next season. Although no team has been formally named as being in negotiations with Chatham-Kent, one team which is rumoured to be moving is the Erie Otters. Erie has only one year remaining on their arena lease, and was nearly moved to Hamilton last season.
The discussion of an OHL team being examined for Chatham-Kent was substantiated in a recent report obtained by the Chatham Daily News, who published an article yesterday on the topic.
Although the Municipality’s plan to obtain an OHL franchise initially involves a team playing in the outdated Chatham Memorial Arena, Chatham-Kent would be required to build a new arena.
