Chatham-Kent’s only NHL representatives, Ryan Jones of the Edmonton Oilers, and TJ Brodie of the Calgary Flames, both had their already lockout shortened seasons end even quicker, as neither of their teams qualified for the postseason.

Both teams finished within points of each other at the basement of the NHL’s Western Conference, with Edmonton finishing 12th, and Calgary finishing 13th in the Conference..

Jones missed the first half of the lockout shortened season recovering from an eye injury he suffered while training in the offseason. The Chatham, Ontario product scored a career low two goals and 5 assists in 27 games played, and by season end, was finding himself in the Oilers’ press box as a healthy scratch.

Brodie conversely, saw his role with the Calgary Flames increase as the season went on. Following the departure of Jay Bouwmeester, Brodie saw his special teams time increase, and his overall ice time climb well above 20 minutes per game.

The slick skating defender collected 2 goals and 12 assists in 47 games.

As the young Edmonton Oilers continue to develop next season, Jones’ role with the team will be in jeopardy and he can expect serious competition at camp, if he’s back with the team.

Brodie will be looked upon to take an even larger role with the Flames next season as they enter a complete rebuild phase after dumping the veteran core of their team this season.
