Tartans, Lancers Win Soccer Openers
The Wallaceburg Tartans and UCC Lancers both swept their opening games in the Kent boys and girls soccer season.
In Wallaceburg, Tamara Gamble and Alina Steele each scored two goals as the Tartans defeated the LKCS Cardinals 6-0. Scotia Nutt and Abbey Broad each had singles in the win for the Tartans.
Wallaceburg’s boys also defeated the LKCS Cardinals by a score of 4-1. Brayden Fischer and Casey McGee each had two goals for the WDSS Tartans in the victory.
UCC’s boys and girls teams shutout the Tilbury Titans 5-0 and 4-0 respectively. In the girls game, UCC received scoring from five different players as they stifled the Tilbury offense. Sydney Authier, Kelsey Reiss, Julia Moretto, Taylor Medd, and Casey Mason scored for the Lancers. In the boys’ win, Matt Bento scored a hat trick, lifting his squad. Keegan Pittuck had the other UCC goal, while Josh Pickering recorded the shutout.
In the lone other Kent high school soccer game of the day, the CKSS Golden Hawks took on the Chatham Christian Flames. CKSS walked away victorious as Brandon Foster scored the game’s only goal, while Tristen Allen had the shutout as CKSS defeated Chatham Christian 1-0.
