Stanley Cup Playoffs

The Detroit Red Wings are heading to the second round! Detroit topped Anaheim 3-2 to oust the Ducks. Henrik Zetterberg, Justin Abdelkader and Valtteri Filppula all scored for the Wings.

The Toronto Maple Leafs were in survival mode last nighjt in Toronto, as they have forced a decisive Game 7 with a 2-1 win over Boston. Dion Phaneuf and Phil Kessel scored third period goals for the Leafs, while James Reimer made 29 saves in the victory. Game 7 is tonight in Boston, puck drops at 7.

In other NHL action:

The New York Rangers stayed aliove and forced a game 7 against Washington, winning 1-0. Game 7 is tonight in Washington.

World Hockey Championships

Team Canada topped Czech Republic yesterday 2-1, to clinch a spot in the quarter finals. TJ Brodie was -1 in the game. Canada play Slovenia today at 2:15 p.m.

OHL

Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith and the London Knights will host the Barrie Colts tonight in Game 7. The winner of this game are the OHl champions! Puck drops at Budweiser Gardens at 7:05 p.m.

JRB Lacrosse

Organeville topped the Wallaceburg Red Devils 13-9 on Saturday. Jordan Durston scored five goals and had two assists in the loss.

Local racing

Port Lambton’s Drew Smith earned his first two checkered flags of his career, as the second-year driver won the heat and dash in the Schinkels Gourmet Meats UMP Modified class on Saturday at South Buxton Raceway. Wallaceburg’s Willy Vyse won his heat race and finished second in the crack-the-whip in the Windride Transportation Sport Stocks. However, both classes, along with the UMP Late Models, did not run feature races as rain halted the racing action around 9 p.m. In the only feature that was run before the rain, Cottam’s Denis DeSerrano won his second straight in the Tirecraft Mini-Mod class. Racing continues this Saturday at 7 p.m.

PGA Tour

Tigers Woods claimed the Players Championship over the weekend, beating out Sergio Garcia down the stretch for the win.

NBA Playoffs

San Antonio 87 at 97 Golden State – The series is tied 2-2.

MLB

Cleveland 4 at 3 Detroit – 10 innings.

Toronto 12 at 4 Boston – Jose Bautista cracked two homers in the win.
