The London Knights are on the brink of eliminations, after the Barrie Colts topped the defending champs 6-4 last night. The Colts now hold a 3-1 series lead. Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith had an assist the loss. Game 5 is tomorrow night at Budweiser Gardens.
Stanley Cup playoffs
It was heart break last night for the two local teams.
Boston 4 at 3 Toronto (OT) – David Krejci scored the OT winner at the 13:06 mark of the extra frame, to complete the hat-trick. The Bruins now lead the series 3-1. Joffrey Lupul, Cody Franson and Clarke Macarthur scored the Leafs goals. Game 5 is tomorrow in Boston.
Detroit 2 at 3 Anaheim (OT) – Nick Bonino was the hero for the Ducks, as he scored at the 1:54 mark of the first OT for the winner. The Ducks now hold a 3-2 series lead.
Other NHL action:
Washington 3 at 4 NY Rangers – The series is tied at 2’s.
Los Angeles 3 at 2 St. Louis (OT) – The Kings grabbed a 3-2 series lead.
High school girls rugby
The Blenheim Bobcats blanked the Wallaceburg Tartans 34-0. The Bobcats coaches said Wallaceburg caught Blenheim off guard at the beginning of play with a very tough style of play and aggressive defense.
Senior girls soccer
UCC blanked McGregor 4-0.
Senior boys soccer
Mitch Hakker scored a hat-trick for the Lancers, whoe beat the Oanthers 3-2. Nate St. Pierre scored a pair in the loss.
Local soccer
Last night (Wed., May 8th), the Wallaceburg Sting Girls U18 soccer team opened their 2013 season in the London and District Youth Soccer League. They hosted their long time rivals, London Southwest Storm, and defeated them 4 to 0. It was an impressive team victory with the girls displaying lots of controlled passing, solid defensive play and goaltending, topped off with some great goals. Scoring for the Sting girls were: Emily Pepper (2), Abbey Broad and Alyssa Lucier. The shutout was recorded by Sydney Authier. The Sting U18 Girls’ next game is at home this Saturday, at Steinhoff Park against the Simcoe Strikers. Kickoff is at 4:00 p.m.
NBA Playoffs
Chicago 78 at 115 Miami – The Heat even the series a 1’s.
Golden State 100 at 91 San Antonio – The Warriors evened their series a 1 game apiece as well.
MLB
The Washington Nationals topped the Tigers 3-1. Bryce Harper hit his 10th homer of the season for the Nats.
The Rays topped the Jays 10-4. Edwin Encarnacion homered in the loss. Ricky Romero was tagged with his 2nd loss of the season, he gave up 4 hits, 2 walks and 3 runs in a third of an inning.
