The Men’s and Women’s Kent Havoc Rugby teams defended their home field Saturday, fighting off strong winds and strong opposition to open their 2013 Niagara Rugby Union season with a pair of wins.

The Kent Havoc Women hosted the Norfolk Harvesters and put up an impressive 38 points, defeating a shorthanded Norfolk squad 38-26.

After watching the women win, the Kent Havoc Men’s side followed up with a win of their own, beating a strong Waterloo County Club 22-17.

The games were a part of the Kent Havoc’s season opening doubleheader, which featured a “Ruck Cancer” fundraiser. The Havoc estimate they raised approximately $400 for the Canadian Cancer Society at the games.

Next Saturday, the Kent Havoc host another double header with the women playing the opening game at 12:00pm against the Hamilton Hornets. The men follow at 1:30pm facing the Bruce County Barbarians. Both matches will be played at the old CCI Field.
