Herreweyers Named to All-Rookie Team

Wallaceburg’s Zach Herreweyers has been named to the All-Rookie Team for the Eastern College Athletic Conference of NCAA Men’s Lacrosse.

Herreweyers, a freshman attacker with the Loyola University Greyhounds, scored 16 goals in 8 games including four hat tricks throughout the season.

Herreweyers, who played minor lacrosse in Wallaceburg, was the Nieuwendyk Award winner as the Ontario Junior A Lacrosse League’s Rookie of the Year in 2012, while playing with the Peterborough Lakers.

After being eliminated by Ohio State in the ECAC semi-finals, Loyola, who finished the season with an 11-4 record, received an at-large entry to the NCAA Lacrosse Tournament, and will face Number 7 seed Duke in their opening round game this coming Sunday.

In other lacrosse news, Wallaceburg’s Nate Carroll, will start the NCAA Division III tournament Wednesday, as his Adrian Bulldogs host Otterbein University.

Carroll has 5 goals and 6 assists as a freshman midfielder for the 13-3 Adrian Bulldogs this season.
