Lancers, Bobcats Take Gridiron Victories
The UCC Lancers did something few high school football teams in the last 24 months have done, beat the Wallaceburg Tartans.
Winning 28-21, the Lancers scored late on a short Aaron Zimmer touchdown run, keeping UCC as the only remaining undefeated team in KCSSAA Junior Football at 3-0.
The touchdown was Zimmer’s second of the game, as he also scored a 15-yard TD. Zimmer topped all UCC Lancers offensively collecting 106 total rushing yards in the game. Justin Stevens also scored twice for the Lancers on two short, 4- and 5-yard runs.
Marc Kellett scored all three Wallaceburg touchdowns, collecting majors from 38-, 25-, and 15-yards out.
At Chatham-Kent Secondary School, the Blenheim Bobcats kept the CKSS Golden Hawks winless, doubling up the home team 28-14.
Tanner Shuian scored two touchdowns for the Blenheim Bobcats, while Jeremy Wammes scored a rushing touchdown for Blenheim, and also threw a TD pass to receiver Malcolm Mussa.
Alex Ronyson scored a rushing touchdown for the Golden Hawks in the loss, while Charlie Echlin caught a long, 45-yard, TD pass from CKSS quarterback Sinjin Rountree.
UCC will host Blenheim on May 10, while Wallaceburg will travel to face John McGregor the same day. CKSS has a long layoff, as they will wait until May 16 when they host JMSS.
