After receiving a tip from a local source regarding the claimed sale of the OHL’s Erie Otters to a prominent local businessman in Chatham-Kent, it appears the rumour, might be just that, a rumour.

The Erie Otters General Manager and Managing Partner Sherry Bassin denied the claim, telling GoErie.com there was “absolutely no truth to it.”

This is not the first time Bassin has denied the Erie Otters are in talks with other communities in Ontario regarding moving the Otters. Previously, the team denied conversation with Hamilton investors, and was also the topic of rumours earlier this spring, following a leak regarding a report referencing the OHL from Chatham-Kent council.

Bassin however has openly stated in recent months to members of the Erie press that he is looking to get out of the game by selling the Erie Otters, and has had numerous conversations with other communities who are interested in the franchise.

The Otters have a lease in place with community for use of their arena until the end of the 2013-2014 season, however no deal is in place following next year.
