Schaafsma Wins Central League Crown
The Allen Americans defeated the Wichita Thunder 3-2 in a dramatic overtime win, in game 7 of the Central League Championship series.
After falling behind 2-0 in game 7, Schaafsma set up Jarret Lukin to get the Allen Americans rolling midway through the third period. Todd Robinson would eventually score the championship clinching goal for the Americans in overtime.
Schaafsma’s assist in the game, was his fourth point of the final series, and his 12th point of the playoffs. Schaafsma finished the postseason with 5 goals and 7 assists in 19 games for Allen.
In the regular season, Schaafsma collected 24 goals and 23 assists in 66 CHL games, and was also briefly recalled to Houston of the American Hockey League.
This season was only Schaafsma’s second in North America in nearly a decade. He played the 2009-2010 season with Flint in the IHL. Schaafsma has also spent time playing in Italy, Great Britain, and Holland. The Blenheim native also represents the Netherlands internationally.
