Tartans Edge Lancers, Panthers Ground Hawks
It was a busy day of high school football in Chatham-Kent as four of the league’s five teams fought for playoff positioning with little over a week remaining in the season.
In Wallaceburg, the first place Tartans slipped by the second place UCC Lancers 21-20.
Simon Yazbeck scored two rushing touchdowns from 18- and 8-yards, while Jacob Broad scored what would hold up as the games winning TD on a 2-yard run.
Justin Stevens punched in two 1-yard touchdown runs for UCC, while Rob Wright had a huge 70-yard score. A missed convert for the UCC Lancers was the difference in the final score.
At Chatham-Kent Secondary School, as a part of the school’s 50th anniversary celebrations, the host Golden Hawks fell to the John McGregor Panthers 24-14.
Jalen Butcher scored two touchdowns for the Panthers in the win, one on a 8-yard run, while the other came on a 16-yard pass from Panthers’ quarterback Kelton Evans. Luke Litte had the other JMSS touchdown, while Ian Jenner kicked a 26-yard field goal to cap off the Panthers’ scoring.
CKSS’ SNate Whittal caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from QB Sinjin Rountree, while Nate Krieger ran in a short touchdown for the Golden Hawks’ other major.
