Enviro Clean Cougars of the Week: Kelton Evans and Julian Ferrell

Kelton Evans and Julian Ferrell have been selected as the co-winners of the Chatham-Kent Cougars Player of the Week, sponsored by EnviroClean Car & Dog Wash, for the week ending June 23.

Quarterback Kelton Evans was 11-for-16 for 238 yards and 3 touchdowns on the weekend, leading his Junior Varsity Chatham-Kent Cougars squad to a 29-25 victory over the Forest City Thunderbirds.

“Kelton Evan is our best QB prospect to come from our Cougar Minor Football program,” stated Cougars President Selwyn Jordan about Evans, who has been on 2 Ontario Championship teams. “Kelton has been fortunate to be surrounded by a great group of players and has been working with a great coaching staff in Minor and Travel, but Kelton has emerged as a leader on and off the field,” Jordan continued.

“Kelton is very deserving of the honour. He is a hard worker with a strong arm and great vision. He has been a long time Cougar and is very loyal. I’m sure this wont be the last award he wins in football,” stated Junior Varsity head coach Mike Newman.

On the Peewee Chatham-Kent Cougars team, Julian Ferrell had five touchdowns in his team’s 31-0 shuout over the Sarnia Sturgeons. Ferrell scores 2 rushing TDs and 3 passing TDs. In total, Ferrell rushed for 128-yards and passed for 164-yards.

“Julian Ferrell has only played QB for 2 weeks and about a half dozen practices, but you cannot tell by his excellent QB play,” says Jordan. “Julian is a dual threat who is an accurate thrower, has great scrambling ability, a good feel for the game, and is a strong leader,” Jordan explained about the young quarterback.

“The sky is the limit for Julian and the Cougar Peewee team if he continues to work hard and has the support of his teammates.”

Julian Ferrell had an out standing performance in only his second game as a quarterback,” says Peewee coach Caesar Torres. “He is a natural leader and a gifted passer with the best throwing arm in the league. We are excited to see where he will lead us this season.”

Ferrell and the Peewee Cougars travel to London to play the Forest City Thunderbirds Sunday, June 30, while the Junior Varsity Cougars and Kelton Evans have a bye week, before hosting the Sarnia Sturgeons July 7 in Chatham.
