Jewelian Blackbird from Cobra’s Taekwondo Training Centre recently returned from the 1st Black Belt Selection Event for the 2014 Provincial Team that was held in Mississauga on July 6th and 7th. This event was hosted and sanctioned by the Ontario Taekwondo Association.

Jewelian ended up meeting teammate Emilee Berdan (seeded #1 of the division) from Petrolia Taekwondo in the finals of the Junior Female Light Middleweight division (-59 kg). It was a close match tying with a 1-1 score at the end of 3 rounds. Jewelian was victorious in sudden death overtime with just seconds remaining in the round scoring a high section kick to win the match 4-1.

Jewelian also went on to compete in an exhibition match defeating a Female Junior Heavyweight (+68 kg) competitor 10-0.

Other members of the P.C.T. (Petrolia/Cobra’s Team) that competed at this event were Billy Schenk, earning bronze in the Junior Bantamweight (-51 kg) category, and Lauren Anderson who took silver in the Junior Lightweight (-52 kg) category and a bronze in the Senior Women’s Bantamweight (-53 kg) division.

Upcoming competitions for Blackbird in 2013 are Pan Am Championships in Mexico September 20-22, 2014 Provincial Team Trials Game 2 in Toronto October 6, and 2014 Canadian Junior National Team Trials in Montreal, Quebec November 30 and December 1.
