Havoc Men Win Fifth Straight

Rugby-Ball-MensThe Kent Havoc Men are looking more and more like the team to beat this season in the Niagara Rugby Union’s ‘B’ Division after picking up their fifth straight win on the weekend. The Kent Havoc squad defeated a visiting Bruce Barbarians team 24-21.

The win improves the Havoc to 6-1 this season, staying just ahead of Highland in the standings, the only team that has beat the Havoc this season.

Saturday’s match went down to the wire and the Havoc picking up tries from Dave Buis, Ryan Pietens, Tyler Gawley, and Matt Waddick. Jack Thomas and Gawley made one conversion respectively in the win.

“I’m very pleased for the team,” said Kent Havoc President Chris Marvell. “Their results show how hard they have been working and their commitment to the sport. We have a number of younger players who are progressing extremely well, as well as a few players returning to the club this year,” continued Marvell.

“Our more mature and experienced players continue to amaze me with their level of fitness and their dedication. That experience and character shines through when they manage to win close games, especially when playing away from home. The team continues to build, and so with a relatively small playing squad we are always on the lookout for anyone who wants to give rugby a try. Big or small, we welcome everybody, no experience necessary.”

Next week, the Havoc have a break as the league takes a week off for the long weekend. The Havoc will attempt to hold first place when they host the Highland RFC August 10.

Following the Kent Havoc’s match Saturday, the Windsor Rogues took on the Bruce Barbarians 1st squad. It was also a tight affair that went down to the last minute. Windsor came up short with a score of 23-20.

The Kent Havoc Women dropped a close game Saturday on the road, facing the Guelph Redcoats. The Havoc Women fell 15-12. They will next host the Sarnia Saints on Saturday, August 10.
