JV, Peewee Cougars Win
The Junior Varsity Chatham-Kent Cougars played the Sarnia Sturgeon this week and came away with the win 31-6. On a hot, humid day in Chatham the Cougars came out quick, scoring on their first two plays from scrimmage, and never looked back.
QB Kelton Evans had a strong game going 11-13 for 261 yards with 3TDs and an INT. Jake Anderson was the leading Receiver catching 4 balls for 131 yards and 2 TDs. He also rushed 3 times for 36 yards. Nate Whittal also added a TD catch and added 46 yards to the offence. Strong games were also had by Sinjin Rountree with 2 catches for 27 yards and Marc Kellet with 2 catches for 71 yards. Kellet was also the leading rusher, rushin for 104 yards an a TD. Jacob Broad had a strong game blocking in the run game and added 20 yards as well. Also helping rush the ball was Alex Ronyson with 34 yards and Anderson chipping in with 36 yards. String game from the offensive line. Kicker Trev Niven was 4/4 on converts and added a rouge as well. A strong defensive game was lead by Alex Formosa who had 7 solo tackles, 3 assists and 2 sacks. Ethan Baylis added 4 solo tackles with 2 assists, 2 batted balls and a fumble recovery. Zach Kaniecki had 4 solo tackles, 3 assists and an interception, along with some punishing hits. The whole defence played great.
The win puts the Cougars in fourth place by themselves, with the top 4 teams making the playoffs. They travel to Niagara this week to take on the Storm.
The Peewee Cougars traveled to Brantford on Sunday and came home with a hard fought 21-14 win versus the Bisons. The Cougars took the lead with 1:20
The Cougar defense had an outstanding performance holding one of the leagues top offenses to just 2 TDs. Lucas Doyle led with 8 tackles. Cameron Creechan, Ethan Ciupka and Garrett Stonefish each had 6 tackles. Tanner Hoorelbeck and Connor Wright each made 5 tackles.
