Major Mosquito Diamonds Fall In Semis
The Chatham Diamonds Major Mosquito baseball team travelled to the Oakridge Tournament this past weekend, falling in extra-innings in the semi-final.
In their opening game Friday, Chatham defeated the London EBBA Tecumsehs 5-2, holding London hitless, scoring both runs off walks. Sam McKinlay was the winning pitcher, throwing 7 strike outs.
Facing Ajax in their second game, Chatham cruised to an easy 12-2 victory. Sam McKinlay scored 3 runs with 3 stolen bases, while Jackson Moon, Quinn Erickson, Morgan Lucier each had 2 RBIs.
Chatham continued winning in their third game, defeating Aurora 12-2. Dakota Vangoethem had a triple, 2 singles, and scored 3 runs. Jackson Moon had 2 singles, a walk, and scored 3 runs in the win.
Advancing to the semi-final, the Diamonds faced their only real challenge of the tournament, eventually falling to the London Tincaps in extra innings. Vangoethem again had a strong game at the plate, going 3 for 4, all singles, with 3 stolen bases and 1 run.
