Peewee Day Of Champs Huge Success For Cougars
Jon Cartier scored 2 rushing TDs; one a 2 yard outside run and the other a long 78 yard run. Julian Ferrell threw 2 TD passes in the win connecting with Cody Lunn for a 23-yard touchdown and threw Ben Barnard for 43-yards. Jon Cartier also scored a 2 point conversion. Lucas Doyle scored the final touchdown, 48-yard run that sealed the win in the fourth quarter.
On the defensive side of the ball, Ethan Ciupka had a 7 tackles with 5 tackles for losses. Cam Creechan, Garrett Stonefish, and Lucas Doyle had 6 tackles each, while Connor Wright, Trey Postma, and Connor VanHeesch each had 5 tackles and 1 sack. Evan Torres and Ben Barnard had 4 tackles.
With Forest City leading at the half 19-18, the Cougars made adjustments at the half, and were able to shut down the Thunderbirds offense.
“Yes, we made a few adjustments at the half to prevent the outside run with our linebackers while our Dline were adjusted to plug the middle. This paid off with our defense shutting them down in the second half.”
In other Peewee action at the Day of Champs hosted at the Chatham-Kent Community Athletic Complex behind CKSS school, the Brantford Bisons beat the Sarnia Sturgeons 28-0, while the Twin Cities Predators beat the Burlington Stampeders by an identical 28-0 score.
According to Chatham-Kent Cougars president Selwyn Jordan, the event in Chatham was considered a success.
“Well the OFC Peewee Day of Champs was a huge success hosted here in Chatham-Kent,” stated Jordan. “Very proud how our Chatham-Kent Cougar volunteers stepped up huge to host this event and make it a very special day for all the Ontario Peewee football players. And to top it off, it was a great day for our Cougar Peewee team to be involved in the best game of the day and to finally beat our competitive rivals the London Forest City Thunderbirds in a well played contest. This was a great moment for our Cougar players, coaches, parents.”
