Senior Cougars Finish Season With A Win

Chatham-Kent-Cougars-JerseyIn the final game of the regular season, the Senior Varsity Chatham-Kent Cougars came out firing on all cylinders, defeating the Niagara Storm 53-30.

The Cougars put Niagara out early scoring 21 first quarter points. Alex Goldoni got the scoring started on a 21-yard TD pass to Max Fantux. Kam Rylett Ward scored on a 2 yard run and then Goldoni hit Ben Bartlett on another touchdown pass.

In the second half, Goldoni hit his stride and threw for 5 more touchdown passes; two more to Bartlett, one to Chance Beaument, and one to Gabe Gagner.

Defensively the Cougars were lead by Nate McIntyre, Carter Wood and Kosta Tourlas with 9, 7 and 5 tackles respectively. The Cougars also had interceptions by Mitch Anderson and Thomas Van Ray.

The Peewee Chatham-Kent Cougars travelled to Burlington on Sunday and put on an offensive show, racking up nearly 500 yards in offense for a convincing 49-29 win over the Burlington Stampeders.

Jonathan Cartier lead the way with 212 yards on 7 carries, 2 catches for 20 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 point convert. Julian Ferrell ran 3 times for 77 yards, 1 TD, and a 2 point convert. Ferrell also passed for 100 yards on 6-for-9 passing. Ben Barnard ran 7 times for 50 yards and 2 TDs, while Lucas Doyle had 6 carries for 59 yards. Cody Lunn had 2 catches for 60 yards and Cameron Creechan was 3-4 on extra points to round out the scoring.

The defense was paced by Lucas Doyle and Trey Postma with 7 tackles each. Creechan and Connor Wright each made 6 tackles, while Evan Torres made 4. Julian Ferrell also added an interception.

Next Saturday July 20 the Cougars will host the OFC Peewee Day of Champs. The Cougars will be in action at 3 pm in the bronze medal game against the Forest City Thunderbirds.

In other action, the Junior Cougars took down the Niagara Storm 30-16, while the Bantam Cougars fell to the Niagara Storm, 37-19. No stats were submitted for these games.
