Steward Celebrates Canada Day With Three Wins
Nick Steward showed off his patriotic spirit by driving three winners at Dresden Raceway on Canada Day.
Steward started the day driving LADY OVAY to victory in the first race for owner/trainer Mel Gowan of Wallacetown.
The five-year-old OYE VAY mare paced in 2:03.1 for her second win in a row at Dresden. Steward struck again in the seventh race when he guided TAYLORLANE FANCY to the winner’s circle in 1:59.2. The seven-year-old MODERN ART mare is owned by Dr. Reg Westgarth of Amherstberg and trained by Gord McDonell.
Steward completed the hat trick in the 10th race when he won with WHITEFIN HANOVER in 1:59.2. The six-year-old ARMBRO WENDY mare is owned by Dennis and Janet Fairall of Windsor and Todd Kennedy of McGregor. Kennedy is the conditioner of WHITEFIN HANOVER.
Steward has 13 wins on the year at Dresden.
The leading dash driver is Alfie Carroll with 22 wins while Robert Sparling Jr. is tied with Alex Lilley in second 21 victories.
The largest payout of the day was the ninth race triactor that paid $1,551.60. The total handle was $19, 268.
