Wood Wins St. Clair River Run
Last year, Wood competed in the 5K race, setting a new St. Clair River Run record.
Wallaceburg’s Brian Horrobin was the top Chatham-Kent male, crossing the finish line in 3rd. Horrobin, who was first in his age division, finished the race in 38:29, 35 seconds behind race winner Kevin Dann of Bright’s Grove, who won the annual race with a time of 37:54.
Pete Kistulinec of Charing Cross was the only other CK runner to finish in the top ten, placing 9th. Broderick Fields of Chatham was the top finisher in the Men’s 50-59 age category.
In the 5K race, Blenheim’s Wayne Newcombe finished 2nd, crossing the finish line in 17:44. Strathroy’s Matt Sheeler won the race in 17:06. The result is identical to last year’s finish, as Sheeler and Newcombe crossed the finish line first and second. Newcombe improved upon his time from last year by 5 seconds.
The River Run continues to grow, as the local race has increased to nearly 750 participants.
Anyone who ran in the St. Clair River Run would have to agree that this is one of the finest organized events around. The volunteers do a superb job and made for a wonderful running experience. It was so good to see so many people taking part. I hope this trend towards healthy living keeps up!
