Maple City Mile Looks To Run Heart And Stroke Disease Out Of Town
The 2nd Annual Maple City Mile run will hit the streets on Monday, September 02. The Maple City Mile is in support of the local Heart & Stroke office. This event is open to runners and non-runners alike. Participants of all abilities can hit the road and increase awareness of how important it is to live a more active lifestyle to fend off cardiovascular disease.
Participants can run or walk in honour of Heart and Stroke survivors or victims while wearing a special race bib. Some will run in memory of those that have perished due to cardiovascular disease, others will run in celebration that research has saved someone with cardiovascular disease, and some will simply run to celebrate a positive and active lifestyle change to fight against cardiovascular disease.
“We invite all to join the Maple City Movement, whether you walk or run,” says Doug Robbins HSFO Chapter President and Maple City Mile Chair. “Come out and support Heart and Stroke and the battle against cardiovascular disease. Each step is a Milestone toward a healthier lifestyle. Our goal is to get Chatham-Kent moving. The Maple City movement is underfoot.”
The Maple City Mile run offers a 5K walk or run, 10K, and a 10-mile (16K) run. For many, this will be their first ever-official run. The walk/run begins at Kinsmen Park at 8:30 am on Labour Day Monday and travels up Tweedsmuir to Queen and down the Seventh.
“The public is encouraged to come out, make signs, ring bells and cheer on all participants. This is a fun event, fun for the whole family,” remarked Robbins.
The Maple City Mile organizers are excited to announce and thank all of their supporters, trainers and sponsors including South Kent Wind, Blackburn radio, Victory Ford, Investors Group-Doug Robbins, GDF Svez, Impact Graphics & Sign, the UPS store, APW Electronics, Elston Pharmacy LTD and Performance Fitness.
