Wallaceburg’s Riley Roe had an impressive weekend at the Junior National Lacrosse League Tournament in Toronto, as a member of the Rochester Knighthawks Peewee team.

Invited to play for Rochester after helping his Wallaceburg Peewee Griffins team to four tournament golds this season, including an Ontario title, Roe didn’t disappoint, scoring twice in his opening game with the Knighthawks, a 10-8 loss to the Toronto Junior Rock.

In their second game, Roe contributed two assists in a 14-1 win over the Vancouver Stealth.

Roe, who has played lacrosse for five years now in Wallaceburg, as well as for the Oneida Braves Field Lacrosse team, hopes to get the call again to play for Rochester, and stated he enjoyed making new friends and playing for coaches Dan Dawson, and Paul Dawson.

As the tournament progressed, Roe continued to score, picking up a goal and an assist in a 9-1 win over the Buffalo Bandits to close out the round robin. Rochester also lost 12-3 to Colorado in the round robin. Colorado, the eventual tournament champion, was coached by former Wallaceburg Red Devils goalie Tye Belanger.

Following the round robin, Roe and his Rochester Knighthawks team advanced to the semi-finals, facing the same Toronto Rock team they had lost to in the tournament’s opening game. Unfortunately for the Knighthawks, Toronto would again get the better of Rochester, winning 9-5. Roe however, again put in an exception performance scoring one goal and one assist in the loss.
