After looking as though contract negotiations could linger late into the summer, Dresden’s TJ Brodie has agreed to terms on an NHL contract with the Calgary Flames.

Brodie signed a two-year deal with the Flames worth $1.75 million in 2013-14 and $2.50 million in 2014-2015 is a sizeable raise over the $741,000 he made last season with the Flames.

The 23-year-old defender had 2 goals and added 12 assists with the Flames last season in 47 games. Brodie was also third overall on the Flames in minutes played last season.

Brodie also played for the Abbotsford Heat last season before the NHL lockout was resolved where he had a goal and 19 assists in 35 games. Brodie was Calgary’s 4th round selection (#114 overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Brodie will again be counted on to play a top four role on the Calgary Flames blueline alongside veterans Denis Wideman and Mark Giordano, and newcomer Kris Russell.

The Flames begin their 2013-2014 NHL season in the newly aligned Pacific Division October 3, as they travel to play the Washington Capitals.
