Ashley Hosfeld is a 21-year-old Fanshawe College student, who plays for the Fanshawe College Falcons women’s volleyball team.

The corporate communications student hails from Chatham, and is a UCC Lancers alumni. Last season with Fanshawe, Hosfeld had 86 kills, 22 service aces, and 87 digs in 18 matches with the Falcons, scoring 110 total points.

Here are Ashley Hosfeld’s answers to CKSN’s Five Questions:

1. What is your career sports highlight/top memory?

I can recall certain kills, blocks or service aces that I’ve gotten, but I think that my entire experience with the Fanshawe Falcon volleyball team would have to be my top memory. From training to games to tournaments, I have learned a lot from Mark Peckham (head coach) as well as from my teammates. I’ve had a great experience with my college volleyball career and it’s something that I’ll never forget.

2. Who is your favourite professional sports team and athlete?

I don’t really have a favourite sports team but I do enjoy watching Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh-Jennings play (Women’s Beach Volleyball – America).

3. If you could achieve one thing/goal in sports, what would it be?

Every day I try to be better than the last (whether it be fitness or skill wise) so that’s always on my mind, but a gold medal around my neck from the OCAA would be nice too!

4. Who has been your biggest sports influence and why?

My biggest sports influence would have to be Dale and Ingrid Lahey. Throughout my club volleyball years, I’ve had the privilege of them coaching me and I have learned so much. They also believed in me in grade 8 before I hit my growth spurt! I can honestly thank both of them for getting me involved with volleyball and helping me to love it as much as they both do.

5. What do you love most about playing sports?

Like most athletes, I love the thrill that comes with the sport. Getting a huge kill or block is a great feeling, but I think the friendships that you develop are a pretty big aspect. I’ve made so many great friends throughout high school and college that I probably would not have know if I did not play sports. Playing sports is also a great way to stay active and have fun!

Five Questions is a new weekly feature on the Chatham-Kent Sports Network. We’ll ask athletes from across Chatham-Kent Five Questions, and post their answers every week. If you know an athlete or coach we should question, or you’re an athlete or coach who would like to participate in “Five Questions,” please email us at ian@cksn.ca.
