Kings, Blades Down Opponents

Blenheim-Blades-SkatesThe Blenheim Blades and Dresden Kings both picked up big wins Friday night in Great Lakes Junior C hockey action.

The Kings, facing the Alvinston Flyers, fell behind 2-0 before scoring four unanswered goals to win 4-2. Veterans Macks Holmes, Taylor Sisson, and Mike Myers all scored for the Kings, while rookie Dede Cato, who lit up the scoresheet in the preseason, had a goal and an assist in the Kings victory.

In Belle River, the Blades defeated the Canadiens, sparking flashbacks of their hot start a year ago. Blenheim was in control from start to finish, holding off the Canadiens in the end, for the 5-4 win.

In the second, Kirk McKillop, Drew Marlatt, and Ryan Frizzel opened the scoring, before Belle River fought back with a pair. Veteran Justin Rossignol closed out the period scoring for Blenheim. In the third period, Ryan Frizzel scored his second of the game to keep the Blades ahead and hand them the win.

Chatham’s Eric Stewardson took the win in net for Blenheim, defeating former Chatham Maroons goalie Scott Tricker of Thamesville.

New Blades defenseman Brayden Seliga continued his strong start to the season, picking up 2 assists. The Kent Bridge resident now has 6 points in 2 games.
