Lakers Looking To Rebound After Difficult Opener
The Wallaceburg Lakers didn’t have the start they were hoping for after a promising preseason, as the Lakers fell 13-1 to the defending champion Essex 73s.
New Laker Justin Lindsay, who scored the shootout winner for Wallaceburg in a preseason win over the Mooretown Flags, scored Wallaceburg’s only goal in the loss. Jordan Riley and Justin Whitson assisted on the second period marker.
The only other excitement for the Wallaceburg Lakers was in the second period as Mike Brown dropped the gloves with Essex’s Colin DeLaet.
Essex put pressure on the Lakers throughout the game, peppering Lakers goaltender Joel Sowinski with 56 shots. The Lakers goalie, who is in his second season with Wallaceburg, made 43 saves in the loss.
Wallaceburg will host the Dresden Kings for a 7:30 start Wednesday, and will hope to get back on track after a difficult opening loss. It is the Lakers home opener.
