Maroons Back In The Win Column
The Chatham Maroons got back in the win column Friday night after losing a few straight, as they picked up a convincing 6-1 victory over the St. Thomas Stars.
Underage goalie Brendan Johnston, a Wallaceburg student and Chatham-Kent Cyclones alumni, picked up his first Junior win, stopping 16 of 17 shots he faced.
Captain Michael Verboom opened the scoring for Chatham in the first period, and ended the night with a goal and two assists. Entering the second period tied 1-1, Chatham’s star players stepped up and produced as they’ve been expected to.
Brayden Hopkins and Eric Palazzolo each scored twice and added an assist, and Kyle Brothers scored the other goal for Chatham. Chatham net hosts the Sarnia Legionnaires this Sunday.
In other Junior hockey action, the Dresden Kings fell 5-0 to the Wheatley Sharks. Wheatley goal scorers were Brett Bowman, Austin Thompson, Mike Reid, Jimmy Ciacelli, and Jon Woelk.
