Maroons Drop Second Straight
After starting the season 2-0, the Chatham Maroons now find themselves back at square one, sitting at .500 after four games following two straight losses.
Thursday on the road, the Maroons fell 6-2 to the Leamington Flyers.
After a scoreless first period, the Leamington Flyers came out guns blazing in the second, scoring four goals in a five minute span midway through the frame. Dylan Seguin potted two for the Flyers, while Colin Moore and Ryan Muzzin had the others.
Before the frame was out however, Kyle Brothers struck for the Chatham Maroons on the powerplay, cutting the deficit to 4-1. Connor Mackinnon and Hayden Verbeek added assists on the play.
In the third period, Nathan Opblinger put the Flyers up 5-1 early on, before Michael Verboom, with an assist from Johnny Montgomery, answered for Chatham.
Less than a minute later however, Wheatley’s Kyle Quick, who was the Wheatley Sharks’ top scorer last season, put a dagger in the Maroons, scoring to make it 6-2, the way the game would end.
The Maroons will try to climb back above .500 when they host the Lambton Shores Predators Sunday at 7pm at Memorial Arena.
