OBA Title For Local Ball Players

BaseballAfter the Chatham Rookie Diamonds won a Provincial OBA ‘B’ title in Chatham on the weekend, five local baseball players, competing with the Western Counties Braves team, won an Ontario Baseball Association ‘AAA’ championship at the Minor Midget level.

Chatham’s Lee Kucera, Austin Oulds, Tanner Goldsmith, and Jalen Butcher, and Wallaceburg’s Keelor Irwin helped the Western Counties Braves to a 6-1 weekend record. The team is also coached by Chatham’s Terry Oulds, with the remainder of their lineup featuring Lambton athletes.

In the championship game, the Braves defeated the Mississauga Majors 9-5. The Majors were the only team to beat the Western Counties Braves in the tournament, edging them 1-0 earlier in the weekend.

This was the second career OBA title for Kucera, Oulds, Goldsmith, and Butcher.
