Schaafsma Proud To Be An American
Entering his 10th professional season, Schaafsma made his American Hockey League debut last year after scoring 24 goals and adding 23 assists for Allen in the regular season.
Schaafsma also had a great playoff season scoring 12 points as the Allen Americans battled to a Presidents Cup, given to the CHL champion each season.
“I’m excited for me and my family to return to Allen,” Schaafsma said in an Allen Americans news release. “We had an incredible season last year ending with a Cup. I can’t wait to get back and defend our title.”
This year, Schaafsma will face off against two other Chatham-Kent products, as Wallaceburg’s Jamie Vanderveeken and fellow Blenheim product Brett Vandehogen will play for the CHL’s Brampton Beasts. The trio of locals play a triple header on November 7, 8, and 10 in Brampton.
Schaafsma had to wait to re-sign with the Allen Americans due to the league’s rules limiting the number of veteran players each team can feature. He will begin the 2013-2014 season with Allen on October 19 and 20 as they play a home and home with Wichita.
