Brodie Front And Centre
A year ago, TJ Brodie was in a log jam battle for playing time, now, the young Calgary Flames defender is front and centre.
Brodie played close to 27 minutes in the Calgary Flames season opening shootout loss to the Washington Capitals. After getting a 4-1 lead, Calgary allowed Washington back into the game, eventually dropping their opener.
As well, Brodie had an assist on the powerplay, on Jiri Hudler’s first period goal. Brodie saw several minutes of special teams time Thursday night, quarterbacking the powerplay, and eating up minutes on the penalty kill.
Brodie was paired with Mark Giordano, the Flames’ new captain, on the team’s top defensive pairing.
The Flames play the Columbus Blue Jackets Friday, and take on the Vancouver Canucks Sunday.
