Jones Ready For New Start In Oklahoma City
After being waived by the Edmonton Oilers prior to the 2013-2014 season, Chatham’s Ryan Jones watched the start of the NHL season from a different location, Oklahoma City.
Clearing waiver, Jones was assigned to the Oilers AHL farm team, the Oklahoma City Barons, where he reported to and skated on Tuesday.
“It feels good to be back on the ice,” Jones stated in an Oklahoma City Barons news release. “I’m actually really excited. It’s a good chance to come down, have some fun and play hard and enjoy playing hockey again.”
Although Jones was hoping to be in the lineup with the Edmonton Oilers, who lost their opener 5-4 to the Winnipeg Jets, he’s prepared to take the feedback he was handed in Edmonton, and work to get better as a part of the Barons roster.
“It’s been a tough little ride just like anytime you go through these things in professional sports,” Jones said about being assigned to the minors. “You take the feedback you get and you work on it.”
Jones and the Oklahoma City Barons open their AHL season October 4 and October 5 with a pair of games against the Charlotte Checkers.
